I have over 10 years' experience as a Speech and Language Therapist, having qualified with an MSc (Merit) from the University of Reading.
After graduating, I worked in London with children with complex speech sound difficulties, school-aged children with more general speech, language and communication difficulties, and deaf babies, children and young people.
Having developed an interest in working with deaf people, I started work in 2008 in a specialist centre for children, young people and adults with severe and profound hearing loss at Cambridge University Hospitals. This involved assessing deaf adults and young people for cochlear implant and other hearing implant suitability. Also providing ongoing support and hearing rehabilitation following implantation to babies, young people and adults.
A significant aspect of my work has been training families, teachers, school staff, fellow speech and language therapists, and medical professionals including consultant surgeons. Subjects have included language development, speech sound development, working in the classroom with children with language or hearing problems, hearing implant technology and lipreading.
I currently work alongside the cochlear implant manufacturer Advanced Bionics (AB) as a rehabilitation consultant, helping them to develop resources and train other professionals working with deaf individuals.
In 2011 and 2012, I was a visiting lecturer at the University of East Anglia, training undergraduate and postgraduate Speech and Language Therapy students in the role of a Speech and Language Therapist in the hearing implant team.
I have been also lucky enough to carry out several research projects, and have published papers in international journals and made presentations at international conferences.
I have appeared on the BBC programme 'See Hear' about a pioneering conference for young deaf people, developed by myself and my colleague Rachel Knappett. This was awarded a runner up place in the 2011 'Advancing Healthcare Awards'.
I hold a qualification in Level 1 British Sign Language.
Specialising in deafness has required me to develop a breadth of knowledge across many disciplines in speech and language therapy, and I will be happy to discuss you or your child's individual needs.
I have two young daughters, born in 2013 and 2015. Working independently gives me the flexibility to balance their needs with providing a high quality Speech and Language Therapy service from my home in Ely.
For your protection and peace of mind, I am registered with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC), the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) and the Association of Speech and Language Therapists in Independent Practice (ASLTIP).
